Error 404

Error is such a harsh word, don't you think? I mean, one little typo, misreading a URL, it doesn't take much and there you are, sat in front of a screen with "Error 404" in great big unfriendly letters in front of you. Would something else be more friendly? How about

Oops 404 - sorry about that

Much friendlier, isn't it?

That web page you asked for? I'm sorry, I had a good hunt round, but there wasn't any sign of it. You could try the home page and see if there's a link to it from there, which there might very well be, or you could have a look down the back of the settee. That's where everything else ends up, anyway. It's not as if it's uncommon to mislay things, anyway. Look at that John Barton, for example, he founded the Royal Shakespeare Company, but you never find out who losted it in the first place.

Right, must get on, there's more web pages to be served. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for in the end, and when you do, tell Bono where it was and he'll be eternally grateful.
